University of Memphis junior Tom Hornsey has been named the National Punter of the Week by the
College Football Performance Awards after an outing at Arkansas State in which he averaged 46.8 yards per punt.
Hornsey had seven of his eight punts downed inside A-State's 20 including four downed inside the 10.
Through the first two weeks of the season, the native of Geelong, Victoria, Australia, ranks 14th nationally with a 45.92 yards per punt average.
No player ranked ahead of Hornsey in the national rankings has
had more punts downed inside the 20. Through two games he has placed 10
of his punts inside opponents' 20-yard line and seven of those 10 have
been downed inside the 10.
The Tigers are back at home on Saturday when they play host to Middle Tennessee. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
